Dried pulps of Sechium edule and Lagenaria siceraria were sequentially extracted using four solvents i.e. hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol. The highest value of total phenolic content (22.69 ± 0.15 µgGAE/mg extract) and radical scavenging activity (951.73±29.14 µMTE/mg extract) was obtained from the ethyl acetate extract of Sechium edule. The methanol extract of Lagenaria siceraria (248.63 ± 10.87 µMAscAE/mg extract), showed the highest reducing activity. The chloroform extract of Lagenaria siceraria indicated the highest in metal chelating activity (EC50=0.62±0.09mg/mL). The highest correlation (r =0.99) was observed between TPC and DPPH values of the extracts of Sechium edule. The bioactivity-guided fractionation results revealed isoquercitrin and gallic acid as the major attributes for scavenging and reducing activities of the methanol extract of Lagenaria siceraria and the ethyl acetate extract of Sechium edule, respectively.
